Meet NiCKY: Supporting Dogs Through Osteopathy

Every dog deserves to feel comfortable, confident and able to enjoy life to the fullest. Osteopathy can play an important role in supporting dogs through injury recovery, managing long-term conditions, improving mobility and maintaining overall physical wellbeing.

At House of Mutt, we’re lucky to work with Nicky, a qualified osteopath who helps our dogs feel their very best. Nicky can treat dogs at each of the Houses. We sat down with her and asked her some questions to get to know her.

If dogs could give us feedback after one of your sessions, what do you think they’d say?

“That it was relaxing, comforting and they feel looser after treatment.”

What’s your favourite breed to work with?

“No favourite to work with, but I do love a Pug or Jack Russell!”

If you had to describe your job using three words, what would they be?

“Blessed, Challenging, Fulfilling.”

Can you tell us a little about your qualifications and how you got into Osteo?

“I have a Masters degree in Osteopathy with post grad qualifications in the cranial field. I got into it through horses with the amazing Ruth McMullen, watching why some horses had difficulty cantering or moving one way but not the other. One of my children was also born tongue tied and at 7m was supposed to go for a general anaesthetic to cut the lingual frenulum. I took them to a cranial osteopath who showed me how the cord had restricted the muscles around their neck which had a restrictive effect on the tongue from being able to stretch out and latch on. One treatment and they never needed the  op. I then realised the power we all have in our hands and what is possible with training and practice.”
