House of Mutt’s visit to dogs for good
How muddy paws really can work miracles! House of Mutt recently got an inside look at how the excellent Oxford-based charity, Dogs for Good, is busy helping transform lives through the magic of muddy paws (or ‘canine companionship’ as their more proper marketing department calls it!)
Dogs for Good trains and provides highly skilled dogs to help people with a wide range of disabilities and challenges — both physical and emotional. These dogs help people regain independence, build confidence, and reconnect with the world around them. They also run programs where trained dogs (and their expert handlers) work in schools, care homes, and community settings, helping people overcome anxiety, build social skills, and feel more connected.
We first came across them in the best way to come across anything, at a dinner over a glass of wine; so the next morning, reached out to find out more.
Everything about their team has been upbeat, positive, fun. And last month Daisy and I were delighted to be invited down to the headquarters in Banbury to meet in person and see their operation for ourselves.
And it’s fabulous!
Best summed up in meeting Mary, pictured below with her loyal (and provided by Dogs for Good) sidekick Sheldon. A seriously impressive, and happy, duo who have recently completed the Three Peaks Challenge in support of the charity, and are now training to conquer 215 miles between Hornsea and Southport – climbing right over the Pennines in nine days and aiming to raise £30,000.
We’re keen to work closer with this charity. House of Mutt is already sponsoring a puppy, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were all able to sponsor a HoM dog all the way through from puppyhood to retirement! We’ve got our thinking caps on. Watch this space….
